Inspired by the overwhelmingly positive reception of the Gorillatorch hands-free flashlight, which features powerful magnetic feet in addition to flexible, wrappable legs, Joby is thrilled to introduce the Gorillapod Magnetic flexible tripod. With the addition of powerful magnets in the feet, the Gorillapod Magnetic can now be anchored to any magnetic surface, in addition to being secured with its fully-articulating legs. Stick it to a pole, wrap it around a tree branch, or perch it on a jagged rock – the positioning possibilities are truly endless.

The Gorillapod Magnetic is the latest addition to Joby’s popular Gorillapod family, which features a host of positioning and stabilization products to extend one’s creative photographic capabilities. With the 2006 launch of its first product, the Gorillapod original flexible tripod, Joby revolutionized the camera accessories market. Now the Gorillapod is available in four sizes to support a full range of photographic equipment, from point-and-shoots and mini video cameras to rigs weighing up to 11.1lbs! Joby has also launched a complete line of Gorillapod accessories to enhance the line’s versatility. Examples include the Ballhead for SLR-Zoom, which allows one to fluidly pan and tilt a camera while it is stabilized by a Gorillapod, and the Flash Clip, which allows one to use the Gorillapod SLR to support an off-camera flash. And Joby’s popular Gorillamobile™ line of products extends the hands-free functionality to a range of other mobile devices, including iPhones and iPods.

The Gorillapod Magnetic supports compact digital cameras and mini video cameras weighing up to 11.5oz, weighs just 2.5 ounces, is 6-inches tall, and has an MSRP of $24.95. US retailers include REI and amazon.com.

A few days ago I took a look at an excellent product from Joby, the Gorillatorch, today I’ve got another Joby product called the Gorillamobile. I’m sure everyone knows the Joby Gorillapod, an excellent mini-tripod that allows you to literally put your camera most anywhere. Joby has introduced a new product called the Gorillamobile, which is basically an upgrade to the Gorillapod, but with a lot more uses for it. The Gorillamobile comes with three different attachment, the standard screw camera style, a suction cup and a semi-permanent adhesive style. With the Gorillapod you won’t need separate tripods for your devices, just use this one for all of them.

Specifications/Features:

Three types of quick-release adapters stay attached to your mobile devices and let you quickly and securely connect them to the Gorillamobile. Switch between your phone, MP3 player and camera in an instant!

–Universal camera adapter (1/4” tripod screw)
–Custom engineered suction cup for a temporary hold—even works on soft-touch rubberized finishes!
–Removable high-bond adhesive clips for a more permanent hold. Detach without leaving residue. Two included.

Specs:
Holds up to: 325g (11.5 oz)
Weight: 45.3g (1.6oz)

Materials :
Legs and clip:
–Tough ABS plastic
–Durable TPE grip rings

Price: $29.95

Unboxing:

The Gorillamobile comes in a plastic box, you can see it right through the front.

Inside we find the tripod itself along with four attachments for the top.

The tripod is flexible and can be used like a normal tripod or the legs can be wrapped around objects to mount your device most anywhere.

The attachment mount has a push button on it to release the top piece, and a sliding lock under it so you can’t accidentally release it with your camera on it.

There are four tips but three types. Two are the adhesive style, one is the standard camera screw style and the other is a suctions cup.

Installation, Performance, Comparison:

Well to test it out I hooked it up to various things I’ve got on hand.

First I tried the suction cup with my AAXA mini-projector and it worked well, but for some reason the suction cup just didn’t stay attached for a long period at first. It took me several tries to get it to stay in place.

Next up I tried the regular tripod mount with my spare camera, and as expected it worked perfectly fine.

Then I figured I’d get a bit creative and try the suction cup with my phone, after all some people do use tripods with their phones to take pictures. This time the suction cup worked perfectly and stuck very well. I’m guessing it’s the difference in the surfaces why it didn’t quite work well with the projector.

Then I decided to go with something a bit heavier to see is the Gorillamobile could support the weight and I went with my video camera using the regular tripod attachment. The Gorillamobile easily held up the weight of the camera and held it steady.

Here’s a picture of the Gorillamobile and the Gorillatorch together hanging around:

I really didn’t have anything that I decided I wanted to permanently attach the adhesive top to just yet, so I really didn’t test that part out. Supposedly you can attach and remove them, but I would want to decide what I wanted to permanently attach it to…

Conclusion:
The Gorillamobile is a truly great little product, it can be an invaluable tool for most anyone. With the included attachments it will work with most any device you’ve got no matter if it has a tripod mount or not.

I really like this product personally, it allows you to mount most anything at all. You can use it for whatever really. The suction cup will attach to most anything, and the adhesive tips with attach to anything I’m sure. Basically you’ve got a mount for anything with the Gorillamobile.

Pros:
+Many uses
+Easy to use
+Different types of attachment options
+Well made

Cons:
-Suction cup doesn’t work well all of the time

Overall: 4 out of 5
Performance: 4
Aesthetic: 5
Build Quality: 5

I would like to thank Joby for the opportunity to review the Gorillamobile and for their support of Bona Fide Reviews.
