The driver disc for the CLP-650N not only contains the drivers for the printer but the above SmartPanel software as well. When installed the SmartPanel software can be used to configure various printer and driver settings as well as check on the status of the printer. It also provides the current toner levels for each toner color. The buy now button in the top right of the panel takes the user directly to Samsung's online store which contains relevant printing supplies like toner cartridges.

Also included with the 650N are two network utilities to help administer the printer when connected to a network. The main utility is the SyncThru web-based software that runs in a web browser. This tool is used to monitor, configure, and maintain all network printers connected to the router. You can view all sorts of information regarding each printer as well as a check status check on each printer.

To dive deeper in the printer settings you can directly connect to the printer by clicking on the respective printer in the SyncThru tool or by typing the printer's IP address into the browser address bar. In this menu you can see even more detailed information like the printer's network settings, firmware version, and print information.

To test the image print quality of the CLP-650N we used the above image of a group of bananas (click the images for a high resolution versions). The image was printed 600DPI and 1200DPI quality. We then took a picture of the printed images with a 5MP camera in an attempt to see the difference between the quality settings. Using just the naked eye, it takes a lot of careful examination to see any difference between the two. Only when carefully looking at a small area and comparing it between the two prints can any difference be seen. As expected, 1200DPI image is smoother than the 600DPI image but only slightly. We also tested printing size 8 Times New Roman text which came out very crisp and clear.
