With the formal introduction out of the way it was show time. Jon and I shook hands once again and took our seats. As previously mentioned the game we were playing was Quake 4. I had a little bit of experience with Quake 3 and quite a bit of playing time with many other first person shooters so I was going into the match with a slight bit of confidence. I adjusted the mouse sensitivity setting, figured out the key commands, and placed on the headphones. Jon asked for a map revote and I accepted. It was time for some butt kicking.

Before I go into the details let me summarize the feelings I had throughout the match. Playing Fatal1ty is both horrible and wonderful at the same time. It's horrible because he completely demolishes you and it's wonderful because you get to witness such ownage first hand. As soon as I spawned I was pretty much in a panic. I scrambled towards the first weapon I saw and then tried to locate Jon. He had already grabbed the shotgun and was on his way towards the extremely powerful rail gun. My fate was sealed. Once he grabbed the rail gun he began pelting me with bullets. But something wasn't right, he wasn't killing me while I was running around the board. He was only shooting me while I was airborne after having jumped on a launch pad therefore sending me flying off into space. In Quake 4, when you fall off the map you get a negative 1 added to your score regardless of how or why you were pushed into space. This fact is important because Jon used it to absolutely humiliate me. By only shooting me when I was airborne (and make it look like I was so bad I couldn't stay on the map) he would continue to rack up negative points on my score. The other side to the story is that even though he was the reason I was dying he wasn't getting credited with the kill which kept his score right at 0. He was making my claim of him not getting a single kill on me come true while at the same time giving me a second worst final score of -11. It didn't occur to me until a little after the midpoint of the match what Jon was doing but even then it didn't matter. He would still knock me off of the map using the saw blade weapon at close range. After I figured out what he was doing and after every time he managed to make me kill myself we both turned towards each other laughing and nodded.

After the match I had to face the music. The MC announced the final score of -11 to 0. Sigh. Jon was asked about the match and the score of 0 to which he sarcastically replied, "Yea. It was really hard to kill him. Kept jumping off." Very funny Jon. And yet, even though I was creamed I had a blast playing against him and I got a free t-shirt. In the end I walked away with a great experience that will be reminisced upon for years to come.

Well that's what it's like to play Fatal1ty mono-e-mono at Quake 4. So the next time you have to wake up for work/school you can ponder about the weather and not Fatal1ty. No thank you's needed.
