I’ve said before and I’ll say it again… I love my iPhone. It is without a doubt my favorite gadget, ever.
I’m always looking for apps. I like apps that make my life easier. Apps that are educational and sometimes to just entertain. And around the holidays I like to find specific holiday’s themed apps.
So for the coming holiday, Thanksgiving, here are some really cool apps you might like to check out:
iHost: Thanksgiving – If you’ve ever hosted a Thanksgiving dinner in your home you know that it’s no small feat. There’s the guest list to consider. The menu – are any of your guests allergic to anything or is someone a vegan? What types of drinks will you serve? You can create your shopping list and most importantly, a budget for this spectacular feast. The iHost: Thanksgiving sounds like a life-saver. It will help you organize and plan your Thanksgiving get together while keeping you sane. $0.99
Turkey Hunt Thanksgiving Dinner – If you want to work up a good appetite for your “real” Thanksgiving dinner, the Turkey Hunt Thanksgiving Dinner app will definitely make you hungry. From the App Store description,
It is the day before Thanksgiving and you just found out that fifty three of your closest friends are coming to your house for a big Thanksgiving dinner because you are master chef (Pier la Goo).
It’s a classic arcade style game that has you trying to beat the clock to scramble around and make Thanksgiving dinner in time. THTD is a fun game to play on a lazy Thanksgiving day (or anytime, really).
Thanksgiving Jokes - Who doesn’t love a good joke? – especially if your kids are telling them. These kid-friendly Thanksgiving jokes are a great way to let your children entertain family and friends during the Thanksgiving Day festivities. Or you can tell the jokes to your little ones that can’t read yet. It’s free so no harm in checking it out.
Thanksgiving Quiz - This app is a great way to test your knowledge about all things Thanksgiving. It also is a great app to teach your kids about Thanksgiving. Who knows… you may learn something yourself. Something I really like is – when it gives you the answer, it doesn’t just give an answer but a little information of why that is the answer. So it is a good educational tool. $0.99
Thanksgiving Match – A great game to download for your kids… and a nice app to just pass the time away as your cooking your Thanksgiving dinner this year. I like getting the apps that my son can play as we’re driving out of town to visit family for the holidays. Thanksgiving Match is good to keep the kids occupied and aids in their memory skills. It won’t cost you anything to check it out.
Thanksgiving Turkeynizer – This fun app allows you to take (or use one from your album) a photo and place it on 1 of 4 turkey bodies. Write something amusing and you’ll have a funny Thanksgiving card to send to family and friends. Note: They do not recommend using it on iPhone 2.2 (low-resolution in finished card) $0.99
Free Turkey Calls – This app is perfect for hunters. But I bet anyone could have some fun with it. When you go turkey hunting don’t forget your iPhone to play turkey calls (either individual calls or loop the calls) and you just may come home with a huge turkey for this Thanksgiving.
Turkey Hunt – Okay, if you’re not a “real” hunter or couldn’t ever see yourself actually killing a turkey this app is for you. You can compete against other turkey hunters around the world on the high scores list. It’s won’t cost a thing to try it out… this app is free.
Turkey Tumble – This free app has you throwing cans of cranberries at crates to help the turkey land safely. A fun game where you are challenged to use as few shots as possible to win the game. It’s recommended for ages 9 and up.
Thanksgiving Feast! Kid Lite – Don’t be fooled by the name… Thanksgiving Feast! is not about the turkey day dinner. It’s a great app that encourages math skills. Kids will have fun with this Thanksgiving themed game and not even realize they’re learning. And it’s free.
Turkey Puzzle – What a fun game for kids of all ages. There are 20 scrambled puzzles with 3 levels of difficulty, 50 Thanksgiving quiz questions and 101 riddles and jokes to entertain. The kids can have fun and learn at the same time.
TGI Black Friday – Black Friday is November 27 and is the Friday after Thanksgiving… the busiest shopping day of the year in the USA. This app will help you find all the great deals out there for (and before, since many ads were leaked out in October) your Black Friday shopping. You can search for thousands of deals and create your own personal shopping list. It’s worth downloading this app… and it’s free!
I hope you get a chance to check out and enjoy these Thanksgiving themed apps. And we wish you a Safe & Happy Thanksgiving!

If you're looking for a fun app for Thanksgiving, I've written one called Gobbler. When you touch the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch, a turkey pops up and “gobbles” at you. As Thanksgiving approaches, the app's been gaining some momentum, and I'd be elated if some of you tried it!

You're missing one important Thanksgiving app…
Turkey Chef.
Given the weight, it calculates the roast time for your bird and even lets you know when it's time to baste.
